Marrying the 0.01% – by Maggie Kim

(Photo by John Cudal) +   Sometimes when I’m driving to work in the mornings, I pass the time by listening to “Ryan’s Roses”. For those of you who don’t know what that is, it’s probably better if you don’t. But basically, it’s a “service” that a radio show provides […]

Flippin’ Annoying People & God’s Love – by Paul J. Kim

We were actually good friends once. We met while volunteering and ended up being involved with another young adult ministry. We invited each other to special events, holiday gatherings, hung out with mutual friends, and even laughed at each other’s jokes. Then there came this season in the friendship […]

I Didn’t Even Tell My Closest Friends About My Attempted Suicide – by Maggie Kim

The other day, I spent some time at the Broad Museum in Downtown LA. Modern art is unique, graphic, and sometimes downright weird, and until this day I didn’t have much appreciation for it. But when I saw this particular painting, the first thing I thought was, “I’ve felt […]

I Lost All My Hair, But Found The Meaning Of Beauty – by Maggie Kim

Anybody who has known me for a while knows that I always had a great head of hair. I don’t mean to sound conceited or vain, but it’s the truth. I always had long, thick hair and every hair stylist I went to would grab fistfuls of it and excitedly […]

Why I Wish My Parents Had Talked To Me About Sex – by Maggie Kim

Let’s have that awkward conversation about sex.   Because we’re not doing anybody any favors by being hush-hush about this thing that is shoved into our faces every single day. Parents, pastors, youth ministers, and anyone else who has young ones looking to you for guidance and answers, this […]

What to Expect When You’re Not Expecting – by Maggie Kim

When I took a pregnancy test and realized I was pregnant with our second child, I cried. They were not tears of joy and thanksgiving, but rather tears of fear and anxiety. You see, my firstborn was only 5 months old at the time, and I had just started to […]

If You’re Single, You’re Gonna Die – by Paul J. Kim

Just kidding. Now, since you’re here… Let’s do some real talk. If you’re single, raise your hand. Now take a long, deep breath, and exhale. Feel that? Everything is going to be okay, you’re not gonna die… Unless you text and drive.   I know Christmas and the holidays are […]

    Youth Speaker for Hire!

“I have heard many, many motivational speakers in my life, but you are one of the best I have heard thus far. Your approach to the Catholic Church is truly inspiring, your music is phenomenal, and your message is a blessing to hear.”  Christine Flores  |  Youth Minister  |  Los […]

Confession: A Catholic Torture Chamber – by Paul J. Kim

“Confessing our sins is not going to a psychiatrist, or to a torture chamber: it’s saying to the Lord, ‘Lord, I am a sinner.’” ~ Pope Francis    I can remember the first time I had to go to confession. I was around 8 years old, and I was scared. […]

Would You Like Some Cleavage With Your Burger? – by Paul J. Kim

Every year in the United States, there’s this national holiday that rolls around called: Super Bowl Sunday. Half of the people at these household Super Bowl parties are there to see two NFL Football teams go at it for glory, in fierce competition. The other half of the partygoers are […]

There’s a saying that the eyes are the windows to the soul. In our age, I feel like social media has become that new “window”. Sometimes I’ll click the search option to see what people are up to on Instagram and honestly, it makes me sad. I see so many posts with people begging for attention by posing provocatively, stripping off clothes and showing more skin, doing drugs, getting smashed on substances with friends, and the list goes on and on. As humans we have this fundamental need to know that we are wanted, loved, and noticed. If those questions haven’t been answered growing up / we feel empty / we’ve become too busy comparing ourselves to others and the attention they seem to be getting while we seem to be ignored, then it can lead to this desperate pursuit of forgetting our dignity and worth, and who we actually are... Trading it for likes, comments, and shares. Friends, you’re worth more than the stars. God created you with a greatness that He felt was worth sending His only Son to come die for and redeem. Discover that more by making prayer and reading God’s word something you do daily. I know it’s so easy to numb ourselves with our phones, but you’d be amazed at the peace and purpose that dialogue with God affords us. Before you post anything, before you like someone else’s post, before you follow or subscribe to an account, ask yourself: Does it honor the God given dignity that is mine and theirs? Have fun with social media: share things that are good and will lift people up, make people laugh, smile, be inspired, or even challenged... just don’t be led astray because of it. #catholic #social media #faith #hope #love

God Bless! My little goddaughter, Elena, was baptized this weekend and became one of the newest members of the Church! Grateful for her little soul and the friendship of her parents @teresita_bea @sonrisapapa. #catholic #felicidades #whyhaveyounotbeenbaptized #nacholibreAt least 58 people were killed last night and over 500 injured when a man sprayed bullets at Route 91 Concert attendees in Las Vegas. Please take a moment to pray hard for those who are still fighting for their lives, those who have passed away, and those who mourn the loss of their loved ones. Let’s also pray for those who have ANY intention of harming anyone, throughout the world. That God would grant them conversion of heart, or bring them to justice swiftly. It boggles my mind why anyone would do this kind of thing, but it’s also not a huge surprise. In Scripture, Jesus calls out the devil as a murderer and the father of all lies (John 8:44). He has the power to influence people to choose evil over good. And tragically, he won in the life of the shooter. But he does not have to win in our lives. Not today, not ever. Because in Christ we already have victory over the devil, sin, and death... So long as we stay close to God in prayer and the sacraments, walking daily in His grace, reading His word in Scripture, humbly repenting of our sins, doing good to others, surrounding ourselves with good people who encourage us to be our best selves, and trusting in God’s love which can and will accomplish beautiful things in us and through us. One act of authentic kindness is worth more in weight than what happened last night in Las Vegas. So in honor of those who are not alive with us today, let’s go do good to people and love our neighbors. 🙏🏼#lasvegas #shooting #mandalaybay #route91 #RIPBabes. Circa 2017.
